OKLAHOMA COMPANIES TO JOIN TOGETHER TO BUILD CAPITOL DOME, GOVERNOR KEATING ANNOUNCES
Oklahoma City -- Governor Frank Keating announced Monday two long time Oklahoma based construction companies will join together to construct the state Capitol dome. Tulsa based Flintco, Inc., established in 1908, and Manhattan Construction Company (1896) will partner together to begin construction next April. The dome is expected to be completed by Statehood Day, November 16, 2002. The two companies were selected through a competitive selection process conducted by the Oklahoma Department of Central Services, the state agency responsible for oversight of the State Capitol.
"I'm very pleased to make this announcement today," Governor Keating said. "It's wonderful that Oklahoma companies will construct a monument which will truly reflect our Oklahoma pride. Both Flintco and Manhattan have been involved in some of Oklahoma's finest construction and renovation projects including the Philbrook Museum of Art, OSU's Gallagher-Iba Arena, the Myriad Convention Center, and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. I know they will put forth a tremendous effort in making this long awaited dream a reality."
Blake Wade, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission said, "On behalf of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission I am pleased that two such respected Oklahoma companies will join as one to complete our state Capitol. I'm looking forward to seeing their cranes go up."
Pam Warren, Director of the Department of Central Services said, "The contract awarded to Flintco and Manhattan marks the state's first use of the project delivery method known as design build. Design build is a proven method of construction delivery and affords the use of a single contract for project design and construction which allows for completion of complex projects like this on a short construction deadline."
